ACtION PLAN

Below is a showcasing of our group's efforts to spread awareness and combat light pollution.

SPREADING AWARENESS THROUGH LOCAL AND ONLINE CAMPAIGNS

LOCAL: SPEAKING WITH OUR COMMUNITY

To spread awareness, my partners and I have engaged with the community on our campus and hosted information booths on campus to discuss with teachers and students about the negative effects of light pollution. We have distributed flyers addressing the issue and providing easy ways to reduce our emissions to help people get better sleep, reduce our effect on wild animals, and increase star visibility.

GLOBAL: MAKING GAMES

To spread awareness, my partners and I have collaborated and created games to help spread awareness of the negative effects of light pollution. We chose to create a game so that anybody in the world with an internet connection and a link to our game would be able to play and learn a bit about our topic. In our game, a moth (representing peoples and businesses who keep their lights on) tries to turn on the lights and keep the sleeping girl (representing the victimized people and animals) awake. The user, acting as an activist, must turn off the lights against the wishes of the moth to help the girl sleep. By using this plot, we hope to teach the player about the importance of keeping the lights off, and encourage them to actively fight light pollution.
